Michelle Obama:RenReport First Lady of Substance and Style

To say RenReport has been psysed by the emergence of our First Lady of Fashion, Michelle Obama, is a vast understatement.  “Lady O” is the most fashion savvy first lady this nation has ever seen. We were aware that we could post more pics of  her best fashion moments, but we were even more enthused to go in depth and look at some of the designers she has chosen during her iconic emergence.

Gloves by J. Crew $98; Isabel Toledo Shift Dress and Coat (Barney's Spring '09 $1500) Green Glacier Jimmy Choo's $695

Nothing could be more American than J.Crew, save forcibly removing indigenous people from their lands. Imagine our shock at  how many people are not up on game when it comes to J. Crew. Being a couple of country girls all of our fashion came via mail order catalog. Since about the 8th grade, we’ve been wholehearted believers.

If your style is classic, classic, classic, or you don’t mind parting with your money in exchange for long lasting quality goods, head over to J.Crew.com. Find tough wearing jeans in a variety of lengths and cuts, even some flannel lined if you live where its cold.  LB cherishes their merino wool sweaters, leather goods, and a consistent palette of pastels that never looks stale season after season.

Another number that worked, was the tank leaf print dress by Donna Rico, Michelle wore on The View last year. Purchased off the rack from White House| Black Market, (gots to love the irony in that) the dress was about $150 and instantly put Ricco, who’s been making dresses for years on the map.

One must give Michelle credit for her penchant in identifyng a diverse group of American talent, even though the fools over at the Black Artists Association, (yes,  fools, b/c one thing we at RenReport belive in fully, is that people of color really need to get a grip on when to pick a fight, and  this is def one of those occasions, but we digress) are up in arms, that Michelle has not yet selected a Black designer, while she has selected Cuban-American designers (Toledo and Rodriguez),  and two Asian-American’s Taiwan born Jason Wu and Thailand born Thakoon Panichgul, who was raised in Omaha. By RenReport’s calculations Lady O has 1,444 more days to be first lady and we feel confident, she will be able to squeeze a Black designer in somewhere. ( Our vote goes to Kara Saun!)

Minimalism never fails to win us over, making  RenReport’s top pick -Maria Pinto’s look from the final presidential debate. Although she wore pinto several memorable times while campaigning, the necklace with its over sized fun floral elements, was so now, and  perfectly matched the cerulean blue sheath dress making her look absolutely presidential. Word on the runway is Maria Pinto was hardly known outside of Chicago until Lady O began wearing he work on the campaign trail. Since then sales have increased by 45% and the number of stores carrying her this year has doubled, according to the Wall Street Journal. It seems Michelle is doing big things for the fashion economy.

Jason Wu designed one hell of an Inauguration ball gown for the First Lady.

What set is off were the exquisite jewels designed by Loree Rodkin. The LA designer, has a truly stunning collection, the standout piece from the ball ensemble was the Michelle Signet Ring.

We literally  could never tire of  covering Michelle’s many fashions including her reading to second-graders inspired motif she donned yesterday, when she and President Obama, surprised a DC Charter School with a visit. Equal parts sassy, yet subtle.

Thankfully, the Madames, over at Mrs-O.org are all over it. They have officially replaced Black Celebrity Kids as our guilty web pleasure. One love to y’all ladies!
